School from age five to eighteen. Hated every minute of it. Total waste of my precious time. Learnt nothing. Parents plonked me on a piano at the age of eight. I took to it like a duck to water. By age of fourteen I was composing. By the time I left school I was deep into Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Soul and Latin American styles. After leaving school my dad asked me how I intended to make a living. I said I wanted to be a musician. He thought that was a great joke and told me to get a respectable, well-paying career behind me. He recommended the legal profession. I fell for it. I studied my butt off for a few years and actually managed to qualify as a solicitor. Six months later I quit to pursue a musical life as a contemporary pianist/composer. Mum was happy about it. Dad was not.
